Mary Cantwell

Educator/Design Thinker

Mary Cantwell (@scitechyedu) is a 18-year educator with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership in Technology. She dove DEEP into design thinking, encouraged visible thinking, and sparked a rapid transformation into 21st Century learning, thinking, and creating. Currently, Mary travels around the world facilitating and collaborating with schools and learners to challenge status quo, strengthen pedological instruction, and create growth and change within the culture.

As the former Director for Mount Vernon Presbyterian School’s Center for Design Thinking, she adapted Stanford’s d. School design thinking model into DEEP – Discover, Empathize, Experiment, Produce. Mary has presented at numerous conferences, including Tech Forum, NAIS, //fuse, SXSWedu Makerspace, Martin Institute, and EduCon. As well as conducted professional learning workshops and coached on DEEPdt at Stanford University’s d.School “K12 Workshop”, “DEEPdt (i)gnite” at the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and “Innovation in Teaching” at Episcopal Academy. Recently, Mary was named 1 of 25 NAIS Teachers of the Future and also earned the Class Act award from NBC news affiliate, 11Alive.

It is a rare moment that Mary is not connected, as she is an active Twitterhead who feels passionately about demonstrating and sharing the Design Thinking methodology through her tweets. Many followers also enjoy her i.Design Lab blog and her site for DEEP Design Thinking.  Also, she is a cofounder of #dtk12chat, a weekly conversation about design thinking in K12 Education.
